Placing the first human into space was a close race between Kantas and Nyterria since its inception. Kantas started preparations for human spaceflight a year ahead of the Nyterrians, starting their Firebird Program to send a single person into orbit. Due to their background of military excellence, Kantas opted to use their top Air Force candidates to head the program.
